Rams in the NFL

Watching Cecil Sapp score his first career NFL touchdown Sunday got me thinking of other former CSU players now in the NFL.

According to ESPN.com, eight former Rams are currently in the league, although that number looks to be more like seven after tight end Joel Dreessen was waived by the Houston Texans last week.

The most notable former Ram has to be Miami Dolphin linebacker Joey Porter, who might want to update his Web site.

Like at the collegiate level, Lubick's guys haven't faired too well in the Pros lately. Offensive tackle Clint Oldenburg, who was drafted in the fifth-round this past spring, was cut Wednesday morning from the New England Patriots' practice squad.

Maybe he wasn't cheating enough.

One-time Mountain West Player of the Year Brandlee Van Pelt once scored a touchdown for the Broncos, but he has since been cut by both Mike Shanahan and Klint Kubiak's father, who you can help make NFL coach of the week here.

Van Pelt's former replacement, Justin Holland, was once signed as a free-agent by the Dolphins in 2005 but this past summer was released by the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

On a brighter note, offensive tackle Erik Pears continues to make an impact for the Broncos.
